Mermaid Huntress Jewelry

Jewelry with a spine. Worn with Purpose

Crafted from the venomous spines of invasive lionfish, every piece helps remove a predator and restore the reef.

Our founder, a female diver and ocean conservationist, hand-spears each one herself and transforms their venomous spines into striking, one-of-a-kind jewelry.

Part of every sale supports coral reef conservation and restoration.

Each piece of our lionfish jewelry is handmade to order, making every item one-of-a-kind.

Because every spine and fin is naturally unique in shape and color, your piece may vary slightly from the photo — a true reflection of its wild, ocean-born origin.

Learn About Lionfish

  • Lionfish are striking, venomous fish known for their bold stripes and long, flowing fins. Native to the Indo-Pacific region, they’ve become notorious as one of the most invasive species in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico. While beautiful to look at, lionfish are a major threat to marine ecosystems outside their native range.

  • Lionfish likely ended up in Atlantic waters through a mix of aquarium releases and accidental transport via ships. With no natural predators and a rapid breeding cycle (they can lay up to 2 million eggs a year!), they’ve spread aggressively across warm-water habitats — from the southeastern U.S. coast to the Caribbean and beyond.

  • Lionfish wreak havoc on marine ecosystems by devouring native fish, especially young reef species crucial to ocean health. Their unchecked appetite throws off the balance of reef life, threatens biodiversity, and even hurts local fishing industries. Left unmanaged, lionfish can severely degrade coral reef environments in just a few years.

  • Controlling lionfish is a hands-on effort — and people like you play a part. Divers hunt them, chefs cook them, and artists (like us!) repurpose their spines into meaningful jewelry and decor. Every lionfish removed from the ocean helps restore balance and protect native marine life.

  • Yes — and it’s delicious! Lionfish has a light, buttery flavor and is considered a sustainable seafood choice. It's completely safe to eat once the venomous spines are removed, and eating lionfish actually helps reduce their numbers. It’s a rare case where indulgence supports the environment.

  • We believe in turning problems into purpose. By transforming invasive lionfish spines into handcrafted jewelry, we raise awareness, reduce waste, and create something truly unique. Our workshops and artisan pieces celebrate sustainability, artistry, and the power of education through creativity.
